Last week was game walk week for us here in ART 146 which began with us venturing out into the outdoors looking for inspiration. We each spent a half hour alone with our thoughts outside and were encouraged to try and find at least one thing that we could bring back with us (not physically) and try to turn into game that people could play. In groups of around four we collaborated our ideas we'd come up with and generated some pretty neat projects.
Friends With Benefits

This team created a game similar to dodgeball except the person throwing the ball is blindfolded and must rely on their teammates to guide them in throwing the ball at the enemy team. This game really worked in the outdoor setting with a lot of surrounding buildings in close proximity. This made chasing down balls thrown by a blindfolded person relatively easy. People could aim the thrower in a certain direction and have them throw the ball that way or some others would go around and try to hold onto the enemy team members and call out to the thrower. This game was good because it was easily played by a large number of people and was easy to grasp.
Nest Quest
This is the game that the group I was in made. We took a lot of inspiration from the things we saw on our walks, including birds making a nest and beehives. We decided to make a similar game to that of capture the flag except each member of one team, the birds, had their own nest and egg (flag) to protect. The opposing team of bees was designed to outnumber the birds, and each of the bees would have a stinger (or flag) hanging off them that the birds could grab in order to get them out. Birds hide their eggs at the start and the bees go after them. If a bee successfully captures a bird's egg, that bird is out. The game ends when either all the bees are out of the game or all the eggs have been captured.
