Hey everyone this is the Blog posting for the game demos the week 4/30-5/4. (Stephanie is posting the rest of them soon!)
I'm going to apologize the ahead of time for not writing down the names of the game, and I also don't want to butcher them so I'm just going to leave them nameless, the game creators can add the names if they want!
This week we watched a speech by Bernie DeKoven regarding the New Games Movement that focused on ideas of 'coliberation'-the idea of getting satisfaction from gameplay that involves collaboration. He highlighted ideas of community, shared ownership (in regards to play experience), and fun! Taking inspiration from DeKoven's speech, we set off to make games inspired by friendly competition and community.
This game involved quick thinking, rhyming and beat making, where the person in the center would say a word, chose a person on the outer circle and they had to say the first word that comes to mind, the next person would then say a word that rhymed with the previous.
It was fast paced and always kept the group laughing and thinking.
This game most easily described as a competitive team charades emulated the new games movement in it's friendly team competition, and sense of community within each team. This game worked by a person selecting an action and secretly telling one member from each team, that team member then had to communicate the action to their team, and get them to complete said action. The first team to do that won, and the person who was accurately communicated the action chose the action for the next round.
This Game is a version of telephone where a member of the outside ring is given a base number, and must communicate it around the circle to the other team members without the tagger in the middle picking up the message. Once the message makes it all the way around, the person who started it gets up and runs to the base that corresponds with the number.
